| The awesomely named Barbarellatones is the latest Sex With Lurch offshoot from SWL mainman Robbie Quine. The B-tones mixes the glittersurftranvestobilly of Lurch with an off kilter, Donovan-esque (meaning Sitars and gongs and hippy hippy shakes) psychedelia, and tosses a gooey dose of bubblegum pop on top. As with any of Robbo’s stuff, the songs on this ‘un vacillate betwixt dark, brooding, and touching (“Misery”) to raucous, neon-colored, and creepy-in-a-good-way (“Yummy Yummy Yummy”, “When Marionettes Kill”) and, well, just plain fucked up (“Kentucky Fried Drag Queen”). It’s all fun and weird though, and if the Krofft Supershow was going back on the air tomorrow, you better believe at least a couple of these tracks would be on the soundtrack.
